About the event
As science enthusiasts working towards a better tomorrow, it is just as important to know about the happenings of today. The Humanities Collective of IISER TVM invites you to join the students’ discussion on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.
The session titled "Israel-Palestine conflict: A War of Narratives" will explore the causes, implications, and historical context of the war.
A brief outline of the discussion:
The discussion will begin with a concise introduction to the recent eruption of violence between the state of Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas. From there, we will discuss how the two sides view this conflict, with Israel seeing it as a justifiable defense against a terrorist attack and Palestine seeing it as an ongoing occupation of their lands, their hopes for a sovereign statehood and self-determination. We will also delve into the role of media in this conflict, how they shape the narrative in front of a global audience, and how that influences the reaction to this conflict. Finally, we also wish to touch upon how India’s stance on this issue has evolved- and how India balances its official stance for a two-state solution against its vocal support for Israel’s right to self-defense. We believe students should form an informed opinion on global issues such as these, and such a forum would be beneficial to achieve that goal.
